I visited the LI on Saturday the 13th. After leaving Skiatook around 9:00 AM I got to Gore around 11:30 ish. The WX in Skiatook was very cool, (low 40′s) and cloudy. By the time I got to Gore it was Sunny and warming up nicely. I got into the water around 12:00 and started fishing the East side of the cut. There were about 30-40 fishers there in various locations. Water was clear and a SSW wind put the fly into a drift south, but you had to contend with the wind for casting. Not much on the West side so I switched back to the East side after a quick lunch and fished a pool right next to the parking lot and struck paydirt! I started with a black wooly bugger, switched to a top foam ant (bright yellow) caught 3 fairly quickly then moved back to a white wooly bugger after the top water action slowed. Quite a school in the pool and they were hungry. Hit 4 more on the white WB and then my reel need some repairs so I left the water about 3:30 PM. WX started to cool and the end of the day was near.
A very good day – and quite enjoyable. Here is Daily Log report for the day: Lower Illinois Gore 021310
